Which Zapier plan you need
Zapier's pricing page lists Connections via webhooks on Professional, Team and Enterprise, but not on Free. Professional starts at $19.99 a month billed yearly for 750 tasks, with a 14-day trial (as of 03.10.2026). Free also limits you to two-step Zaps.
One help article shows a plan badge of Team and Enterprise only. If the trigger is locked in your account, check your plan page or ask Zapier support. If you want to stay free, use Make or self-hosted n8n.
Step by step
- Create a Zap. For the trigger, choose Webhooks by Zapier and the event Catch Hook.
- Leave Pick off a child key empty, or enter
submissionif you only need the submission part. - Copy the webhook URL Zapier shows.
- In Formgong, open My forms → your form → Form settings → Webhook. Paste the URL and click Add webhook.
- Send a real submission from your site. Then click Test trigger in Zapier and pick that request.
- Add an action, such as Google Sheets → Create Spreadsheet Row, and map the fields.
- Publish the Zap. Zapier answers each delivery with 200, so Formgong marks it as sent.
What Zapier receives
Catch Hook parses the JSON. Nested keys show up with their path, so submission.fields.email appears as a Submission Fields Email value.

|---|---|
| Name, email, phone, message | Submission Fields Name, Email, Phone, Message |

| De-duplication key | Submission Id |
To stop test deliveries from creating rows, add a Filter step: Event exactly matches submission.created. Zapier lists Filter as a paid-plan feature, which you already need for webhooks.
Optional: check the signature
Catch Hook does not pass headers. To check X-Signature, use Catch Raw Hook instead. It gives you the unparsed body and the headers. Then add Code by Zapier (Run JavaScript) with the code below. Store the signing secret from Formgong's Webhook tab in the step's input data.
// Input Data: body = Raw Body, signature = the X-Signature header,
// secret = your Formgong signing secret.
const crypto = require('crypto');
const expected = crypto.createHmac('sha256', inputData.secret)
.update(inputData.body)
.digest('hex');
const got = String(inputData.signature || '').replace(/^sha256=/, '');
if (got !== expected) throw new Error('Formgong signature does not match');
const data = JSON.parse(inputData.body);
return { event: data.event, submission_id: data.submission.id, ...data.submission.fields };If the code throws, the Zap stops there and nothing is created. Catch Raw Hook accepts bodies up to 2 MB, far above Formgong's 64 KB form limit.
Troubleshooting
- 404 in Recent deliveries: the Zap is off or was deleted. Zapier can take a few hours to start answering 404 after a Zap is turned off.
- Webhooks by Zapier is locked: your plan does not include it. See the plan section above.
- Fields missing in the action: send a new real submission and pick it under Test trigger.
- Same lead twice: a retry after a slow answer can repeat a delivery. Use Submission Id in a lookup step or in your sheet.
- Checkbox group in one field: ticked boxes with the same name arrive as one string, for example
Email, Phone. To split it, add Formatter by Zapier → Text → Split Text with the separator,[:space:].
Questions
Does Formgong have its own Zapier app?
No. Webhooks by Zapier is the way in. It needs no login and works the same for every form.
How many Zapier tasks does a submission use?
Zapier counts tasks for action steps. A Zap with one action uses one task per submission; filters and the trigger itself are not counted as tasks by Zapier.
Can I try it before I pay Zapier?
Zapier offers a 14-day Professional trial. Formgong's Free plan is enough on the Formgong side: one webhook per form.
Is Zapier the cheapest option?
For webhooks, usually not. Make's Free plan and self-hosted n8n both accept webhooks at no cost. Zapier makes sense if your team already uses it.
