Formsite alternative: a free form for your website

Formsite has made online forms since 1998, and its paid plans do a lot: payments, multi-page logic, Save & Return, PDF copies of results. The free level is much smaller. Once the 14-day trial ends, an account keeps 5 forms and 10 results per form, gets a daily summary email instead of one per result, and cannot export to CSV. We build Formgong, a backend for a form that sits in your own page, so it is listed first below; everything about Formsite comes from its own pricing and help pages.

Short answer: Formsite's free level is small: 5 forms, 10 stored results per form, 50MB of files, a daily summary instead of an email per result, and no CSV export. For a free form on your own website, build it in your site's colours and font with Formgong's form builder and let Formgong deliver it: 1,000 submissions a month, an email and a Telegram message for each one, data stored in the EU. Stay with Formsite for payments, Save & Return and long multi-page applications.

What Formsite's free level includes

Every new Formsite account starts on a 14-day trial of the Professional plan, no card needed. When the trial ends, the account drops to the Free level. Nothing is deleted, but the paid features switch off.

Free keeps 5 forms with up to 100 items each, 10 results per form and 50MB of file space. The 10 results are a stored total, not a monthly allowance. Results stay in a form until you delete them, and Formsite's help tells you to delete old ones to make room for new ones. On a contact form, that means ten messages before you have to clear some out.

The email you get each time someone submits, which Formsite calls a Notification, needs a paid account. On Free you get a daily summary instead, sent around 8am US Central time. Exporting results to Excel or CSV is paid too, as are the integrations (Google Sheets, Zapier, Slack, the API) and removing the “Powered by Formsite” line under the form.

Formsite runs on AWS data centres in the United States. That suits plenty of sites. If your customers expect their data to stay in the EU, check it before you build.

How a Formsite form gets onto your page

Formsite hosts the form on its own servers. You share a link or a QR code, or you paste the embed code into your page. That code is a script from formsite.com that draws the form inside an iframe, so your site's CSS stops at the frame's edge. You style the form a second time on Formsite's Style page: themes, colours and fonts, plus an Advanced tab for your own CSS, which Formsite says it cannot support or guarantee.

Capterra reviewers run into the same limits. Formsite averages 4.5 there from 44 reviews; a marketing director finds the form design a little dated on mobile, and a nonprofit program director says the plans do not suit someone who needs one or two forms with a lot of submissions. Another reviewer's tablet form stopped taking entries when it hit its limit. Formsite replied that it emails the account when a form gets close.

Where Formsite is the better choice

Formsite is a full form application, and Formgong is not. If your form is a long application with page rules, piping and a progress bar, Formsite handles it, even on Free. Paid plans add payments through Stripe, PayPal, Authorize.net and Braintree, Save & Return so people can finish later, workflows that chain forms together, and PDF copies of results. Signatures, calculations and inventory counts are there as well.

It also works with no website at all. A Formsite link or QR code is a complete form on its own. If that is how you take registrations, orders or grant applications, and a paid plan fits your volume, stay where you are. Formgong's builder does not take payments or show fields based on earlier answers.

A free form that is part of your own site

A contact, quote or booking form on a business site has a simpler job. It should look like the rest of the page and reach you every time. That is a plain HTML form in your page with a backend behind it.

Formgong's free form builder starts from your site's address. It reads your home page once and takes the button colour, the corner radius and the font, so the form already looks like yours before you touch it. You edit the fields (up to 20), pick where your site is built, from WordPress, Shopify, Wix and Webflow to plain HTML, and copy the code. You need no account until you want the form to send.

The free plan then takes 1,000 submissions a month across unlimited forms. Each submission is emailed to up to 3 addresses and sent to Telegram as it arrives, and it lands in an inbox you can export to CSV. Submissions are stored in Cloudflare D1 under EU jurisdiction. Free has two limits of its own. The inbox keeps submissions for 30 days, and a small Powered by Formgong link appears on the thank-you message and in the notification email, though never on the form itself.

Replacing an embedded Formsite form with your own form

A builder embed is replaced in two steps: a form that matches your site, and a backend that receives it.

  1. Take a form from our templates, or describe what you need to the form generator and download the markup.
  2. Point it at https://formgong.com/submit with your free access key, paste it where the embed was, and send a test.

The form inherits your site's fonts and colours because it is your own HTML, and submissions land in the dashboard inbox, your email and Telegram. The HTML docs cover redirects, autoreplies and the honeypot.

1. Formgong

Best for: Static and AI-built sites that want leads in Telegram and email, EU storage and 12 interface languages.

  • Free plan: 1,000 submissions a month, unlimited forms, CSV export.
  • Telegram: Every plan, including Free; several chats per form.
  • Data location: Submissions stored in Cloudflare D1 with EU jurisdiction.

Watch out: A young service with few native integrations: webhooks, email, Telegram and Google Sheets. Files are limited to 5 MiB each.

2. Web3Forms

Best for: A generous free quota with one access key and no account dashboard work.

  • Free plan: 250 submissions a month, unlimited forms, 1 recipient.
  • Telegram: Starter, Pro and Agency, not Free.
  • Data location: Infrastructure on AWS, Cloudflare and Hetzner; data may be processed in several regions.

Watch out: Stops accepting submissions at the monthly limit. Telegram and other integrations need a paid plan.

If you are moving off Formsite and something your form needs is missing here (a field type, a payment step, a long application), write to support@formgong.com and tell us what the form has to do. We read every message.

Questions

Is Formsite free?

Yes, at a small scale. After the 14-day trial an account moves to the Free level: 5 forms, 10 results per form and 50MB of file space, per Formsite's pricing page. An email for each result, CSV export, payments and integrations need a paid plan.

Does the Formsite free plan email me each submission?

No. Formsite's help says Notifications, the email sent each time someone completes a form, need a paid account. On Free you can turn on the Daily Summary, one email a day around 8am US Central with that day's results.

What happens when a Formsite form reaches 10 results?

Results count toward the limit until you delete them, and Formsite's help says to delete old results to make room for new ones. One Capterra reviewer describes a form that stopped taking entries at its limit.

What is a free alternative to Formsite for a website form?

Your own HTML form with a backend behind it. Formgong's form builder copies your site's colour, corners and font, and the free plan delivers 1,000 submissions a month by email and Telegram, stored in the EU. If you want a hosted builder with logic and a generous free plan, Tally is the closest match.

When should I stay with Formsite?

When you rely on what it does well: payments, Save & Return, multi-page forms with rules, workflows, PDF results, or forms shared as a link with no website behind them. Formgong does not replace those.
