Reviews

A free review widget for your website

Customers leave a star rating and a few words, you approve what you want to show, and the widget puts the reviews and the average on your page. It works anywhere you can paste HTML.

Short answer: Create a free Formgong account, add your site under Reviews, and send customers your review link or add a rating to a form you already have. Approve the reviews you want to show, then paste one div and one script tag where they should appear. The free plan has no limit on reviews.

What the free plan includes

  • No limit on reviews, and no limit on views: the widget never disappears because your page got busy.
  • A review link you can send after an order or a visit. Customers rate and write on a hosted page, with no account to create.
  • Moderation: nothing goes live until you approve it. Or let bare star ratings publish themselves and keep written reviews for you to read first.
  • Replies: answer under a review in public, or reply to the customer privately.
  • Import: bring reviews from Judge.me, Shopify Product Reviews, Loox, Yotpo or a CSV file. Imported reviews wait for your approval too.
  • One site, with a small Formgong link under the widget. Reviews never count toward your form submissions.

How to add reviews to your site

  1. Create a free Formgong account and open Reviews in the dashboard.
  2. Add your site: give it a name and its address.
  3. Collect reviews: send customers your review link, or add a 1 to 5 rating to a form you already use.
  4. Approve the reviews you want to show. Nothing is public before that.
  5. Paste the div and the script tag where the reviews should appear, then press Check my site.

The dashboard walks you through it, with instructions for plain HTML, WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Tilda, Shopify and Framer.

The code

Paste it where the reviews should appear and replace fk_your_access_key with your site's key. The widget shows the average, the number of approved reviews and the newest reviews. It draws inside its own Shadow DOM, so your site's CSS cannot break it. Until the first approval it shows at most a “Write a review” link.

HTML
<!-- Where the reviews should appear -->
<div data-formgong-reviews="fk_your_access_key" data-limit="6"></div>
<script src="https://formgong.com/reviews.js" defer></script>

<!-- On a product page: only this product's reviews -->
<div data-formgong-reviews="fk_your_access_key" data-product="stoneware-mug"></div>

The script is 5.9 KB compressed and loads with defer, after your page. If you would rather render the reviews yourself, the same data is public JSON at https://formgong.com/reviews/fk_your_access_key.json.

Built so the numbers stay honest

  • The widget calls its count “approved reviews”, so it never passes for every review you received.
  • Hiding a 1 or 2 star review needs a reason: spam, abuse or personal data. There is no “show only 5 stars” switch.
  • Helpful votes are off unless you turn them on, have no “dislike”, and never reorder reviews.

Reviews on each product page

Add a product field to the review form, or send a review link per product, and each product page can show its own reviews and average with data-product. On a shop, that is usually the product handle.

Want stars next to your product in Google? The page needs review markup. Generate it with the free review schema generator: it can load your approved reviews by access key, so the markup matches the widget. Google does not show stars for reviews a business collects about itself, such as testimonials on a company or café page.

When you need more

  • Reviews Pro, $25 a month or $240 a year: an AI summary for each product, no Formgong link under the widget, more than one site, a mood tag on every review (praise, neutral or complaint), and reviews shown in each visitor's language, labelled as an automatic translation.
  • Reviews Plus, $49 a month or $470 a year: everything in Pro, plus photo and video reviews.

Reviews have their own plan, separate from forms. See pricing.

Questions

Is the review widget really free?

Yes. Reviews Free has no limit on reviews or on views, covers one site and shows a small Formgong link under the widget. Paid plans add AI summaries, more sites and photo and video reviews.

Will it slow my site down?

The script is 5.9 KB compressed, loads with defer after your page, and reads one small JSON file that is cached for 60 seconds.

Do reviews count toward my form submissions?

No. Reviews have their own plan and never count toward the monthly submissions of your forms plan.

Can I bring reviews from another app?

Yes. Import an export from Judge.me, Shopify Product Reviews, Loox or Yotpo, or a CSV of your own, up to 5,000 rows per file. Imported reviews keep their dates and wait for your approval.

Can I hide a bad review?

You can hide any review, but hiding a 1 or 2 star review asks for a reason: spam, abuse or personal data. That keeps the average honest for the people reading it.
