Trustpilot and Formgong side by side
Each Trustpilot cell comes from Trustpilot's own pages or its public listing, read on 23 October 2026. The table has no prices; plans change, and the linked pages carry them.
| Trustpilot | Formgong | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A public company-review platform; reviews live on trustpilot.com | Product reviews on your own pages |
| Free plan | 50 review invitations a month, 1 widget, 1 user, 1 domain | Yes: no limit on reviews, any number of sites |
| Who controls display | Trustpilot: its guidelines decide what stands; merchants flag within its categories | You approve each review; hiding one asks for a reason from a fixed list |
| Invitation emails | From Trustpilot, in its design; its App Store reviews complain branding cannot match the store | From your WooCommerce store via our plugin, or your own review link |
| Photo and video reviews | Service reviews are text; product reviews exist on paid tiers | Yes: up to 5 photos and 1 video per review |
| Voice reviews | No | Yes, free, with server-side transcription |
| Export your reviews | Business accounts can export service reviews as CSV | Yes, on every plan |
| Shopify App Store | 3.4 from 35 reviews | Not listed yet |
What merchants say in 1 and 2 star reviews
Trustpilot's Shopify listing is small and unusually low-rated for this category: 3.4 from 35 reviews on 23 October 2026, 13 of them at 1 or 2 stars. Three of them:
“the first paid tier is just too expensive as a percentage of revenue”
“Can't customize the email so it looks like it is associated with my brand”
“When a review states something provably untrue … no real way to deal with it”
These are single merchants' accounts, and we could not check them. The full reviews, and Trustpilot's replies, are on the linked pages.
When to stay with Trustpilot
- You need third-party credibility. A Trustpilot profile is social proof precisely because the platform, not you, controls it. An on-site widget cannot substitute for that, ours included.
- Buyers check trustpilot.com for your brand anyway. If they do, an unmanaged profile is worse than a managed one; the free plan's 50 invitations a month may be all the management you need.
- You advertise where Trustpilot stars appear. Google Seller Ratings and similar placements draw on platforms like Trustpilot, not on-site widgets.
Keeping a free Trustpilot profile and running your own product reviews on-site is a normal combination, not a contradiction.
Where Formgong fits, and what it does not do
- Product reviews on your own pages. The widget shows approved reviews and the average on each product page, in your design, with structured data for rich snippets; our free schema generator builds the markup.
- Your rules, stated honestly. You approve what shows; hiding a 1-star review requires a reason such as spam or personal data, and there is no show-only-5-stars switch, so the numbers stay defensible.
- Review collection without a counter. Send your review link to any number of customers; on WooCommerce, with our WordPress plugin, a WooCommerce store emails each buyer after a completed order: one form for every product in the order, reviews sent from it marked Verified buyer, and one reminder for the products still without a review. A refund or cancellation stops a waiting email.
- A customer can also record a voice review, up to two minutes: the speech is transcribed on the server (Whisper on Cloudflare Workers AI, the spoken language detected automatically), the transcript becomes the review text when the customer wrote none, and a recorded review always waits for your approval. None of the apps on this page offer that.
The widget filters by star rating and sorts by date or rating, and the same script shows stars under products in your lists and a small rating badge on any page.
What Formgong does not do: it is not a public trust platform, carries no third-party badge, and does not feed Google Seller Ratings. If that is what you came for, Trustpilot or its platform peers are the actual category.
Until 31 December 2026: an account that connects reviews gets every paid reviews feature free for 6 months: the AI summary, mood tags, translation, AI moderation and no Formgong link under the widget. Your reviews and settings stay when the 6 months end.
How to move your reviews from Trustpilot
Take your Trustpilot reviews with you (within its rules)
- Trustpilot business accounts can export their service reviews as a CSV from the business dashboard. Note that Trustpilot's terms govern reuse of content from its platform; showing “our Trustpilot reviews” on your site is what its own widgets are for.
- The clean path is forward-looking: keep the Trustpilot profile for company trust, and start collecting product reviews on your own pages, where no invitation counter applies.
Then import it into Formgong
- Create a free Formgong account, open Reviews and add your site.
- On the site's page, click Import reviews. Choose the CSV, pick the language the reviews are written in, and click Import. Formgong recognises a Trustpilot file by its rating and author columns. Importing is on the free plan, with no limit on the number of reviews.
- Read the result. It counts the reviews that came in, the ones already imported before, and the rows skipped for a missing rating or an unreadable date. If the file marks a review as spam, rejected or hidden, it arrives hidden.
- Nothing is public yet. Click Publish N imported reviews, approve them one by one, or click Undo this import. On the free plan, reviews you have not published are deleted after 30 days, so decide within a month.
- Put the widget on your pages (code below). Then switch the old app off, so it stops sending review emails and the page does not show two widgets.
What comes across: the star rating, the title and text, the reviewer's name, the original date, the product and your public reply. What does not: reviewer emails, photos and videos, verified badges, helpful votes and custom questions. One file can hold 5,000 rows and 5 MB, so split a bigger export. You can run 20 imports a day, and importing the same file twice adds nothing.
A Trustpilot CSV goes through our generic path: columns like rating, author and date map automatically; reviews without a product attach to the site rather than a product. Mind Trustpilot's terms on reusing platform content; your own collected reviews are the clean route.
Our Shopify app has been in Shopify's App Store review since 14 October 2026 and was still not listed on 20 October. Until it is, the widget goes into a Custom Liquid section, where {{ product.handle }} matches the product handle in your file. Off Shopify, paste the same two lines and set data-product yourself. You can export your Formgong reviews to CSV at any time, too.
<!-- Shopify: a Custom Liquid section on the product template -->
<div data-formgong-reviews="fk_your_access_key" data-product="{{ product.handle }}"></div>
<script src="https://formgong.com/reviews.js" defer></script>
<!-- Any other site: set data-product to the product handle from your export -->
<div data-formgong-reviews="fk_your_access_key" data-product="blue-teapot"></div>
<script src="https://formgong.com/reviews.js" defer></script>One account for the rest of the site
The same free account covers the rest of a small shop's site. A contact form that emails you every message, an AI help chat that answers visitors from your own pages, and free website templates with the form already connected. Reviews, forms and the chat live in one dashboard, so there is one login and one support address.
Tell us what we got wrong
If you moved from Trustpilot to Formgong, or tried and went back, we want to know what broke. If a fact on this page is out of date, or the import skipped rows it should have kept, write to support@formgong.com. We read every message and correct this page when we are wrong.
Questions
What is a good Trustpilot alternative for a small shop?
For reviews on your own product pages, an on-site tool: Formgong Reviews is free with no review limit, photo, video and voice reviews, and your approval on each. For a public company-trust profile, Trustpilot's free plan (50 invitations a month) is still the category, and running both is normal.
How many invitations does the free Trustpilot plan send?
50 review invitations a month, with one widget, one user and one domain, per Trustpilot's own plan pages. Past the cap you wait for the next month or upgrade.
Can I show Trustpilot reviews on my own website?
Through Trustpilot's own widgets, per plan. Its Shopify listing's low-star reviews complain about the limits: one widget on free, invitation emails that cannot match your brand, and no follow-up if a customer does not respond.
Do on-site reviews replace a Trustpilot profile?
No. They do a different job: product reviews on your pages convert shoppers already there; a Trustpilot profile is third-party proof for people checking your company. Many stores run both, the profile free and the product reviews on-site.
