Where Jotform is stronger
- Ten times the free responses. 100 submissions a month against Typeform's 10, plus 5 forms and stored submissions.
- Payments, signatures, compliance. Payment fields, e-signature, and HIPAA features on its higher tiers; Typeform does not play in that lane.
- Templates for everything. The template library is the fastest start in the category.
Where Typeform is stronger
- Completion rates on long forms. The conversational format is the product; surveys and quizzes feel lighter one question at a time.
- Logic on the free plan. Branching, calculations, scores and variables are included on Free, as is AI form generation.
- Design coherence. A Typeform looks deliberate out of the box; a Jotform needs styling work to match it.
Who should pick which
- Order, booking or application forms with payments: Jotform.
- Research surveys and quizzes where completion matters: Typeform.
- A free plan you can actually run a small site on: Jotform; Typeform's 10 responses are a demo.
- A contact form on a business site: neither builder is the natural tool, see the third option.
A third option
For a contact, quote or order form on your own site, the third route beats both builders: write the form (or generate it with our free form generator), style it with your own CSS, and point it at a backend. No builder scripts on the page, when we measured Jotform's Contact Us template on 16 October 2026 it loaded 13 files and 386 KB compressed, no foreign branding, and no response counter tied to a builder tier. Formgong's free plan takes 1,000 submissions a month with email, Telegram, an inbox and EU storage; the Jotform alternative for developers page has the full measurements, and Typeform alternatives covers the builder-vs-own-form split.
Questions
Which free plan is bigger, Jotform or Typeform?
Jotform's: 5 forms, 100 submissions a month, 10,000 views and 500 stored submissions. Typeform's free plan allows 10 responses a month across the whole account, per its own help pages.
What happens when Jotform or Typeform hits the limit?
Both stop collecting: Jotform disables the form and shows an over-quota message; Typeform's help says forms go into private mode at 100% of the monthly response limit until the next month or an upgrade.
Jotform or Typeform for surveys?
Typeform, in most cases: the one-question-at-a-time format with logic, scores and variables on Free is built for exactly that. Jotform's strength is transactional forms, payments, signatures, applications.
Do I need a builder at all for a contact form?
Often not. A plain HTML form with a backend keeps your design, loads no builder scripts, and is not tied to a response quota. Builders earn their place on long, logic-heavy forms, not on name-email-message.
