Where Formspree is stronger
- The email is not the only copy. Submissions sit in an archive; a filtered notification is not a lost lead.
- Published limits, plans and support. You know what you bought and whom to write.
- Integrations. Telegram, Discord and Slack on Free; the paid catalogue is one of the largest in the category.
- Visitors without puzzles. Spam tooling does not depend on a default reCAPTCHA.
Where FormSubmit is stronger
- Zero setup cost. No account, no dashboard, no key: the form's action is an email address, confirmed once.
- Free without a counter. No published quota to watch (and none promised, either).
- Enough features for a simple page. Thank-you redirect, templates, a webhook, autoresponse, within its documented interactions.
Who should pick which
- A personal page, school project, one-evening site: FormSubmit, and done.
- A business contact form: Formspree or another account-based backend; losing messages silently is the expensive failure.
- You need Telegram or Slack alerts: Formspree on Free, or a backend with Telegram included.
- You object to captchas on principle: not FormSubmit, whose reCAPTCHA is on by default and discouraged to disable.
A third option
We build Formgong, which is why it sits in the third column, and the honest version of its pitch is one sentence: a bigger free plan (1,000 submissions a month) with Telegram and an inbox included, EU storage, and reviews plus an AI help chat in the same account, at the cost of a shorter integration list than Formspree's. The full head-to-heads are Formgong vs Formspree and Formgong vs FormSubmit, and each names where the other service wins.
Questions
Is FormSubmit really free with no account?
Yes: point the form's action at your email address (or its random alias) and confirm once. It publishes no quota, and its docs mention technical limitations imposed from time to time; there are no paid plans to grow into.
Where do I see past submissions on each?
Formspree keeps an archive in the dashboard (30 days on Free, longer on paid plans). FormSubmit keeps nothing: the email it sends is the only copy, so a filtered or deleted message is gone.
Can I turn off the captcha on FormSubmit?
Yes (_captcha set to false), but FormSubmit itself highly recommends keeping reCAPTCHA on, and ties some behaviour to that choice; autoresponse, for example, does not work with reCAPTCHA disabled.
When is Formspree worth paying for over FormSubmit?
The moment messages have business value: the archive, published limits, integrations and support are what the plans buy. For throwaway pages, FormSubmit's zero-cost design is the point.
