Jotform vs Formgong
| Jotform | Formgong | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A form builder: you design the form in Jotform | A form backend: you write the form, it posts to one URL |
| On your site | JavaScript embed or iframe; full source code for Classic forms only, pasted again after every edit | Your own HTML or a fetch call; nothing to paste again |
| What a visitor downloads | 13 files from Jotform, 386 KB compressed (their Contact Us template, measured 16.10.2026) | No extra files: the form is your HTML |
| Free plan | 5 forms, 100 submissions a month, 10,000 form views, 500 submissions stored | 1,000 submissions a month, unlimited forms |
| Branding on the free plan | Jotform branding on the form | None in the form; the default thank-you page is ours until you set your own redirect, on any plan |
| At the free limit | Forms are disabled and show an over-quota message | 20% extra, then submissions are kept and wait for the next month or an upgrade |
| Email on the free plan | One notification, one recipient | Every submission, at once, on every plan |
| Reading the answer from JavaScript | The submit address sent no CORS headers in our test, so a script cannot read it | JSON with success: true, or an error code and message |
| Webhooks | Yes; plan not stated, signing not documented | Every plan; signed with SHA-256 |
| Data location | US by default; Frankfurt if you move the account to Jotform's EU servers | Cloudflare D1 with EU jurisdiction |
Where Jotform's docs say nothing about a feature, the cell says so instead of guessing.
Why people look for a Jotform alternative
- The form is not your code. The JavaScript and iframe embeds load Jotform's form inside your page. Full source code exists only for Classic layout forms, and Jotform's help says to replace it on your site every time you change the form in the builder.
- It is heavy for a contact form. Jotform's Contact Us template pulled 13 files from Jotform: 386 KB compressed, 1.8 MB once unpacked. The main script alone was 815 KB unpacked.
- The free limit switches the form off. Over any monthly limit, including form views, Jotform disables the form and shows "This Form Has Exceeded Its Allocated Quota".
- Your own script cannot read its answer. When we posted to Jotform's submit address from another site with
fetch, the browser blocked the answer because no CORS headers came back.
Where Jotform is the better choice
Jotform does far more than receive a form. It has a drag-and-drop builder, conditional logic, payment and e-signature fields, HIPAA features on its Gold and Enterprise plans, and integrations with Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier and many CRMs. If you do not want to write HTML, or the form takes payments or signatures, Jotform is the right tool and a form backend is not a replacement for it.
1. Formspree

- Free plan: 50 submissions a month, 30-day archive.
- Telegram: Telegram plugin on every plan.
- Data location: May be processed in the United States and other countries where Formspree operates.
Watch out: The free plan is meant for testing; prices per submission are high on the small paid plans.

- Telegram: Not listed (Slack, Discord, Sheets, Zapier, webhooks).

Moving a form from Jotform to Formgong
- Download the submissions you want to keep from Jotform first. Formgong starts with an empty inbox.
- Write the form in your page, or make one with the form generator. Keep the field names you want to see in your email.
- Set
actionto Formgong's/submitwithmethod="POST", and add<input type="hidden" name="access_key" value="…">from your free account. - Add an empty
botcheckfield for spam. For a CAPTCHA, connect your own Cloudflare Turnstile key in Form settings. - Remove the Jotform script or iframe, send a test, then connect Telegram or Google Sheets if you want them.
Every hidden field Formgong understands is in the HTML docs.
Questions
What is a good Jotform alternative for developers?
If you write your own form, a form backend: the form stays your HTML and posts to one URL. Formgong's free plan takes 1,000 submissions a month, emails each one at once and stores them in the EU. If you want a builder instead, Jotform is still the stronger builder.
Can I use my own HTML form with Jotform?
Jotform gives full source code for forms in its Classic layout, and its help says to replace that code on your site after every change in the builder. The generated form posts to Jotform's own submit address.
Is Jotform free?
Jotform's Starter plan is free: 5 forms, 100 submissions a month, 10,000 form views and 500 stored submissions, with Jotform branding. Over a monthly limit the forms are disabled until the limit resets.
How heavy is a Jotform form?
Jotform's Contact Us template loaded 13 files from Jotform on 16 October 2026: 386 KB compressed and 1.8 MB unpacked. A plain HTML form that posts to a form backend loads no extra files.
Is it hard to move from Jotform to Formgong?
No, but you rebuild the form in your own HTML: set the action to Formgong's /submit, add the access key and an empty botcheck field, and remove the Jotform embed. Download old submissions from Jotform first.
