AI help chat for your site

A chat button for any website. It answers only from the pages and text you give it, links to those pages, and says it does not know instead of guessing. Questions it cannot answer come to you.

Add it to your site

  1. Sign in at formgong.com and open https://formgong.com/dashboard/chatbot.
  2. Enter a bot name and your site domains, comma-separated (example.com also covers www.example.com; add localhost to test on a local dev server). Press Create a bot.
  3. The bot page shows Add to your site. Paste that line before </body> on every page. The key starts with cs_. It is public, like a form access key, and it is not the form's fk_ key.
  4. Under Knowledge, add your sitemap.xml or a page URL and press Fetch, or paste text. Until you do, every answer is “I don't know”.
  5. Press Try it here to test the bot inside the dashboard.
<script src="https://formgong.com/chat.js" data-key="cs_your_chat_key" defer></script>
  • data-key: the bot's key (required). ?key= on the script URL works too.
  • data-color: launcher colour. The open panel uses the colour you set in the dashboard.
  • data-product: the product handle of the page, for shopping consultant mode only.
  • The chat language follows <html lang> (12 languages; others get English).
  • /chat.js is about 2 KB and draws the button after the page has loaded and gone idle. The panel script loads only on the first click.
  • The chat answers only on the domains you listed. Other sites get HTTP 403 and the panel says the chat is offline. If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy, allow https://formgong.com in script-src and connect-src.

What the chat reads

  • Only the bot's Knowledge: pages you fetch from your own domains and text you paste. Nothing is crawled on a schedule. A page already in Knowledge is skipped, so remove it and fetch it again after you change it.
  • A sitemap.xml adds its page URLs (one level of sitemap index, up to 3 child sitemaps). Each Fetch adds up to 20 new pages; press it again to continue. The Free chat plan holds 50 pages.
  • Only public http(s) pages on the bot's domains, served as HTML or plain text with a status below 400.
  • From each page it keeps the text of <main> (else <article>, else <body>) without navigation, header, footer, aside and form elements.
  • It does not check robots.txt or noindex. A noindex page is read if you add its URL or it is in the sitemap you fetch, so keep private pages out.
  • It reads the HTML as served and does not run JavaScript. A single-page app that renders its text in the browser (a typical Lovable, Bolt or v0 build) gives little or no text. Paste the text instead.
  • Facts the bot must follow (one per line) win over your pages. Instructions set the tone and what to focus on.

How it answers, and “I don't know”

Each question is matched against the knowledge by keyword search. Up to five best passages and your facts go to the model, which must answer from them only. Links that are not in those sources are removed from the answer.

When nothing matches, or the model finds no answer in the passages, the visitor sees: “I couldn't find this in the site's pages, so I won't guess. You can ask the team: press “Talk to a human”.” The question appears under Unanswered questions (30 days) on the bot page, so you know which page or fact to add.

Talk to a human

The visitor enters an email (the name is optional) and ticks consent. The conversation then goes to you:

  • as a submission in the Formgong form you choose under Handoff and leads go to form, so it arrives like any other submission of that form: inbox, email, Telegram and webhooks;
  • or, with no form chosen, by email to your account address, with Reply-To set to the visitor.

Limits: 5 a day per visitor IP, 2 per conversation, 40 a day per bot. With Support tickets turned on for the bot, the button becomes “Create a ticket”: each ticket gets a number with a prefix you set (such as AB-1001), and the visitor gets a receipt with a status link.

Plans and limits

  • Every account is on the Free chat plan: 100 answers a month across your bots, 1 bot, 50 pages, and a “Powered by Formgong” link in the panel. Paid chat plans are not on sale.
  • Every visitor message counts as an answer, “I don't know” replies included. The count resets at the start of each calendar month (UTC).
  • 30 messages per conversation and 40 per visitor IP an hour. Over a limit, the chat shows a limit message instead of an answer.
  • Messages are kept 30 days. The visitor IP is stored only as a hash.

Example: booking form and help chat on one page

The form uses the form's fk_ access key; the chat uses the bot's cs_ key. Choose this booking form under Handoff and leads go to form, and chat questions land in the same inbox as the bookings.
