Add the review widget on Squarespace
Last updated
On Squarespace, the widget goes into a Code block. The widget runs JavaScript, and Squarespace allows JavaScript in a Code block on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans.
Add the widget
- In Formgong, open Reviews, pick your site, open the Widget tab, go to step Add to site and press Copy. No review site yet? Get started first.
- Edit the page. Hover over the section, click Add block or +, and choose Code.
- Click the pencil icon on the block. Keep HTML in the Mode menu and Display Source off, then paste the code.
- Save the page and open it in a browser where you are not logged in.
Product pages
In version 7.0, each product's Additional Info takes blocks: open the product, click Additional Info, hover over the field and click +. A Code block there can carry that product's own data-product. Click Apply when you are done.
Common problems
Nothing shows on the Basic plan
JavaScript in Code blocks needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan. On Basic the code stays in the block but does not run.
The reviews do not show while you are logged in
Squarespace sometimes hides custom code from a logged-in owner while visitors see it. Use Preview in Safe Mode, or open the page logged out.
The code shows as text
Set the Mode menu to HTML and turn Display Source off.
The reviews do not load on an index page
Squarespace notes that custom code might not render on a page inside an index page, or when Ajax loading is on.
Only the “Write a review” link shows
The widget shows reviews only after you approve them. Open the site's Reviews tab and approve the ones under Waiting. On a product page, the product also needs approved reviews of its own.
