Craftline: a free WordPress theme for plumbers and trades

Template page:Craftline, every version

Craftline started as an Astro and HTML site for plumbers and trades. We ported it to WordPress by hand as a block theme, and its demo pages and menu come in a separate import file.

Short answer: Download craftline-wordpress.zip, upload it under Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme, then install the free Formgong plugin and paste your access key under Settings → Formgong. It needs WordPress 6.6 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.

Download craftline-wordpress.zip Live demo

  1. Download craftline-wordpress.zip. Don't unzip it.
  2. In WordPress, open Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme, choose the file, click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Install the free Formgong plugin (Plugins → Add New, search for "Formgong"). Create a free form at formgong.com/new and copy its access key. It starts with fk_ and is safe to put in a web page. Paste it under Settings → Formgong.
  4. Optional: download craftline-wordpress-pages.xml and import it under Tools → Import → WordPress for the demo pages and menu.
  5. Send a test message from your site and check that it reaches your Formgong inbox.

What you can change in the Site Editor

Open Appearance → Editor. Besides the header and footer, the theme brings 19 patterns, the pieces its pages are built from: 404 content, Service areas, Customer quote, FAQ, Quote form, Reviews, Services grid, Numbers, Home: scroll story, About page, Contact page, Service page: boilers heating, Service page: drain cleaning, Service page: emergency plumbing, Service page: fixtures bathrooms, Service page: leak detection, Service page: water heaters, Services page and Thank-you page. The front-page template draws the home page from them, and since they are ordinary blocks you edit, move or delete them there like any others. The header and footer are template parts and change on every page at once.

The contact form is the Formgong plugin's form block. The theme holds no form code and collects nothing by itself; the plugin sends each message to your Formgong inbox and email.

What is in the zip

Everything sits in one folder, craftline/, with 40 files (554 KB zipped). theme.json sets the colours, fonts and spacing, templates/ has 404, archive, front-page, index, page-full, page, search and single, parts/ has the header and footer, and patterns/ holds the 21 patterns. assets/ has only CSS and fonts, because Craftline's motion is pure CSS.

It needs WordPress 6.6 or later (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 7.4 or later.

Limits on WordPress

The form needs the free Formgong plugin; without it the page has no working form. The demo pages and menu are not in the theme zip. Import craftline-wordpress-pages.xml to get them, or build your own pages from the patterns.

Craftline isn't in the WordPress.org theme directory yet, so you upload the zip instead of searching for it by name.

Questions

Is Craftline free for WordPress?

Yes, under the MIT license. Use it on your own site or a client's, and change anything.

Will it replace my current theme's content?

No. Posts and pages stay as they are. Switching themes changes how they look, and you can switch back under Appearance → Themes.
