How to install a Shopify theme
- Download the zip. Don't unzip it.
- In Shopify admin, open Online Store → Themes → Add theme → Upload zip file, and choose the file. The theme lands in your theme library; your live theme does not change.
- Create a free form at formgong.com/new and copy its access key. It starts with
fk_and is safe to put in a web page. Click Customize on the new theme, open Theme settings → Formgong (called Formgong form in some themes) and paste the key. - Add your products, photos and menus in the theme editor, then publish when you're ready.
Scamper works without a key: its contact form is Shopify's own until you add one. In the other themes the Formgong forms stay hidden until the key is saved.
What to expect
- Shopify installs the theme only. Your products, menus and pages never come with it, so the store pages show placeholders until you add your own.
- In the other themes the home page is the template's design, and product, collection, cart, search and blog pages are simple pages in the same style. They suit a studio or clinic that sells a few things, not a large catalogue.
- Their settings are flat: one fixed setting per text. You can edit every card but not add, remove or reorder them. Kavelle is the exception, with blocks for its lists.
- They work on any Shopify plan that includes the online store.
One kit for the whole site
The template is the first part. The Formgong account that receives its form and emails you each message can also run a help chat that answers visitors from your own pages, and collect star reviews that show on the site once you approve them. Each part goes in as a key or a short embed code, and you manage all of it from one dashboard.
Tell us what's missing
If your kind of business has no Shopify theme here yet, or a step here doesn't match what you see, email support@formgong.com. We read every message and fix the page, and the next templates we make are the ones people ask for there.
Questions
Are these Shopify themes really free?
Yes. Download them and use them on your own store or your clients' stores. Scamper has its own licence, which only forbids reselling it as a theme.
Why doesn't my store look like the demo?
Shopify copies the theme, not the demo store's products, photos or menus. Add your own in the theme editor; until then the sections show placeholders.
Can I keep my current theme while I try one?
Yes. An uploaded theme waits in your theme library unpublished. Preview and edit it there, and publish only when it is ready.
