Why people look for an EU Formspree alternative
Formspree is a mature form backend: HTML posts to its endpoint, and submissions arrive by email, in the dashboard and through plugins. Its free plan is 50 submissions a month for testing, and paid plans start at $15/month (or $120/year) for 200.
For GDPR-minded teams the sticking point is location. Formspree's privacy policy says it will use your information in the United States and any other country where it operates, and that it needs that transfer to provide the service. That can still be lawful with a DPA and a transfer tool such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. It is more paperwork than storing submissions in the EU by default.
This page is for people who specifically want EU-hosted Formspree alternatives. The general six-option roundup is on Formspree alternatives. The head-to-head with Formgong is on Formgong vs Formspree. How to vet any form backend under the GDPR is on GDPR form backend: 7 checks.
EU options at a glance

| Service | Where submissions live | Free plan | DPA |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formgong (ours) | Cloudflare D1, EU jurisdiction; email via ZeptoMail (EU) | 300/month, unlimited forms, Telegram + autoresponses | Yes — part of the terms, accepted at sign-up |
| Formward | Sweden (Hostup); Mailjet France; optional Mistral AI in France | 100/month, unlimited forms; no CSV export on Free | Yes — accept in the dashboard |
| FormPost | Hetzner in Germany | 1 form, up to 10 notification emails a day | Yes — sign in the account |
| Forminit | AWS Ireland (EU); UK-registered operator | 1 form, 100/month | Yes — with the terms / on request |
| Formspree | United States and other countries (privacy policy) | 50/month, 30-day archive | Available; transfer tools needed for EU controllers |
Stay with Formspree when you need its plugin catalogue (CRM, Sheets, Stripe, Zapier), team seats or the rules engine. Those are where it still wins.
1. Formgong — EU storage, Telegram on Free
Best for: static and AI-built sites that want submissions in Telegram and email, EU storage and 12 interface languages.
- Data. Submissions in Cloudflare D1 with EU jurisdiction. Notification email goes through ZeptoMail from an EU data centre. Raw visitor IPs are stored only as a hash. Details: data and location.
- DPA. A standard Art. 28 DPA is part of the terms and is accepted when you create an account — no separate signature. Read it at /dpa.
- Free plan. 300 submissions a month, unlimited forms, CSV export, autoresponses and Telegram (several chats per form). Retention on Free is 30 days; Pro and Business let you choose longer.
- Paid. Pro $9/month or $86/year (5,000/month); Business $15/month or $144/year (25,000).
- Watch out. A young service with few native integrations: email, Telegram and signed webhooks. Small file-upload limits. Telegram (and any other optional extra you turn on) can process messages under its own terms outside the EEA — leave it off for EU-only processing and say so in your privacy notice.
We build Formgong, so it is listed first. The full comparison with Formspree is on Formgong vs Formspree.
2. Formward — Sweden-hosted, GDPR by default
Best for: teams that want every submission-data sub-processor inside the EU/EEA and a DPA you accept in the dashboard.
- Data. Application and PostgreSQL in Sweden on Hostup AB. Notification email via Mailjet (Sinch) from France. Optional AI enrichment on paid plans uses Mistral in France. Formward says raw submitter IPs are never written to disk (keyed hash only). EU residency is the default on every plan, including Free.
- DPA. Published at formward.eu/dpa and accepted under Account in the dashboard; Formward records the version and time.
- Free plan. €0, 100 submissions a month, unlimited forms, spam filtering, Turnstile, custom redirect. CSV export, search, multiple recipients and self-serve DSAR tools start on Personal.
- Paid. Personal €15/month (500); Professional €30/month (2,000); Business €90/month (20,000). Yearly billing is cheaper. Prices exclude VAT.
- Watch out. No Telegram listed. Autoresponder, webhooks, file uploads and the REST API start at Professional. Optional AI features on paid plans (spam checks, summaries and routing via Mistral in France) stay in the EU when you use them; Formward does not send free-plan submissions to Mistral.
3. FormPost — Germany, tiny free plan
Best for: a small German/EU site that wants Hetzner hosting, a signed DPA and no Google reCAPTCHA.
- Data. Servers at Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany. FormPost says neither it nor its providers transfer submission data outside the EU.
- DPA. You can sign a processing agreement in your account. The site also offers a ready privacy-notice passage to copy.
- Free plan. One form and up to ten notification emails a day. No credit card.
- Paid. One annual Pro plan at €17.85 a year including VAT.
- Watch out. The free quota is small. Spam protection is a honeypot plus an optional arithmetic question on FormPost's own servers — no Telegram, Sheets or CRM plugins.
4. Forminit — AWS Ireland, UK operator
Best for: developers who want SDKs, form analytics, webhooks and EU hosting on AWS (formerly Getform; renamed January 2026).
- Data. Forminit says submission data, uploads and backups live on AWS in Ireland. The operator is UXPLUS LTD in the United Kingdom, registered with the ICO. Subprocessors listed on its GDPR page include AWS (EU), CleanTalk, optional Cloudflare Turnstile, Fathom, Pusher, Stripe and others.
- DPA. Forminit says a DPA is available with the terms / on request, and documents UK GDPR and EU GDPR practices.
- Free plan. 1 form, 100 submissions a month, file upload with 100 MB storage, email notifications. No credit card.
- Paid. Pro $19/month or $190/year (5 forms, 5,000); Business $41/month or $490/year (15 forms, 10,000). Webhooks, Slack, Discord, Sheets and Zapier start on Pro; autoresponder on Business.
- Watch out. Free has a single form. Forms pause at the monthly submission limit (submissions while paused are not stored). Telegram is not listed — Slack and Discord are. Optional Turnstile uses Cloudflare (US) when you enable it.

Who should pick which
- EU storage + Telegram on a free plan + 300 submissions: Formgong.
- Every submission sub-processor in the EU/EEA, Sweden hosting, dashboard DPA: Formward.
- Tiny German site, arithmetic captcha, one cheap annual plan: FormPost.
- SDKs, analytics and AWS Ireland with more than one paid integration: Forminit.
- CRM plugins, team seats, rules engine: stay on Formspree and put a transfer tool in your DPA paperwork.
No form backend makes your form “GDPR compliant” by itself. You remain the controller: name the processor in your privacy notice, set retention, and mention Telegram or other extras if you use them. Plans across more services are on the comparison hub.
Switching a Formspree form to Formgong
- Create a free Formgong account and copy the form's access key. The DPA applies from account creation.
- Change the form's
actiontohttps://formgong.com/submitand add a hiddenaccess_keyfield. - Keep the Formspree honeypot
_gotchaif you have one — Formgong reads it too (botcheckis the Formgong name). - For a custom thank-you page, add
_redirectto a URL on your own site, or set it in the dashboard. - Send a test. Connect Telegram only if your privacy notice covers it; otherwise keep email only for EU-only processing.
AJAX forms keep working: post the same FormData with Accept: application/json. Examples are in the HTML docs.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best GDPR-friendly Formspree alternative?
It depends on the trade-off. Formgong gives the largest free EU plan with Telegram. Formward keeps every submission sub-processor in the EU/EEA. FormPost is the smallest German option. Forminit stores data in AWS Ireland with SDKs. None of them replaces your own privacy notice.
Does Formspree store form data in the EU?
Formspree's privacy policy says it uses information in the United States and other countries where it operates, and that transferring data there is necessary to provide the service. EU storage is not the default.
Which Formspree alternative has a free plan with EU storage?
Formgong (300/month), Formward (100/month), FormPost (1 form, 10 emails/day) and Forminit (1 form, 100/month) all say submissions stay in the EU/EEA on their free plans (as of 05.10.2026).
Do I still need a DPA if the form backend is in the EU?
Yes. Art. 28 GDPR still requires a contract with every processor. EU hosting removes most transfer paperwork; it does not remove the processor contract or your duties as controller.
Is Telegram GDPR-friendly with an EU form backend?
Telegram processes messages under its own terms, often outside the EEA. You can use it if your privacy notice covers it, or keep email-only delivery when you need processing to stay in the EU.
