Yotpo problems in 2026: what merchants report, and how to move your reviews

We read the 30 newest 1 and 2 star reviews of Yotpo on the Shopify App Store, counted what they complain about, and checked Yotpo's own help pages for the fixes. Then the steps to move your reviews out, ours included.

The short answer. On the Shopify App Store, 179 of Yotpo's 4,638 reviews give 1 or 2 stars. Of the 30 newest, 15 complain about support, 12 about setup or display problems and 10 about a feature or price tied to a higher plan. You can export every review to CSV and import it into another review app.

Yotpo problems in 2026: what merchants report, and how to move your reviews

Who this is for, and who wrote it

This is for Shopify merchants on Yotpo Reviews who are stuck: a support case nobody answers, a feature that turned out to need a bigger plan, or reviews that stopped coming in. The first half is what other merchants report, quoted with dates and links. The second half is how to get your reviews out of Yotpo, with Yotpo's own instructions.

Disclosure: Formgong wrote this article. We build Formgong Reviews, which competes with Yotpo for the same merchants, and the last part shows how to import Yotpo reviews into it. That is a reason to check our work, so every review quote links to the page where we read it on 19.10.2026, and the facts about Yotpo come from its Shopify listing, its pricing page and its help centre. We add no claims about Yotpo beyond what those pages say.

What merchants report: the 30 newest 1–2 star reviews

Yotpo's Shopify App Store listing showed 4.8 stars from 4,638 reviews on 19.10.2026. Of those, 4,266 give 5 stars and 179 give 1 or 2. We read the 30 newest of the 179, which is the first three pages of the 1–2 star filter sorted by newest. They were posted or last edited between 17 October 2024 and 20 August 2026, and 11 of them are from 2026.

What the 30 newest 1–2 star Yotpo reviews complain about (read 19.10.2026; one review can count in more than one row)
ComplaintReviews
Support: no reply, slow reply or no fix15 of 30
… of those, naming the AI chatbot or “bots”6 of 30
Setup, onboarding or display problems12 of 30
A feature or price tied to a higher plan, a contract or billing10 of 30
Fewer reviews, or fewer photo reviews, than before2 of 30
Getting the reviews out (export)2 of 30
Other: no text, Meta integration, review pop-up, email change4 of 30

The reviewers are not only newcomers: 9 of the 30 had used Yotpo for less than a month, and 10 for two years or more. Yotpo answered 28 of the 30 in public, and some of its answers are quoted below next to the complaint. These are individual merchants' accounts. We could not check them, and the reviews and replies are on the page for you to read in full. Shopify gives single reviews no link of their own, so each quote links to the page of the filter where it appeared on 19.10.2026; newer reviews will push them down a page over time.

Support: 15 of 30

Half of the reviews are about getting help. Six mention the AI chatbot or “bots”, and three of those describe the same path: the chatbot promises a ticket or a follow-up, then nobody replies.

“The AI chat bot does not help and says it will send a support ticket. No one has gotten back to me”

“assured me that a support agent would follow up within 4–6 hours. It's now been two days”

“no real person only AI, when you request real person, AI created a ticket for you and Goodbye”

Yotpo's reply to JewelryBlossom, on 17 August 2026, says: “We recognize that our response time fell short of the standard we strive to provide”, and adds that the technical issue was resolved. To Cove it replied that “the feature you're looking for is currently exclusive to our Premium plan”.

The chatbot is how Yotpo's help centre describes support, too. Its Contacting Yotpo Support page says: “Free plan customers can receive assistance from the chatbot only.” Starter and Pro customers “can open a case after interacting with the chatbot”, and live chat with an agent is listed for Premium and Enterprise. (Further down, the same page also lists Pro for live chat, so ask Yotpo if you are on Pro.)

Features tied to a higher plan: 10 of 30

The second group is about finding out, after setup, that something needs a bigger plan.

“imported reviews on the Pro plan can no longer receive the Verified Buyer badge”

Yotpo's import guide matches this. Its User Type column, which carries Verified Buyer, “applies only to supported Premium and Enterprise accounts. All other plans import reviews as Anonymous.” (Importing Reviews to Yotpo, updated 14 September 2026.)

“my small business doesn’t need 1000 reviews a month. But there is no cheaper option than $129”

The same merchant could not send a customer the review email again. Yotpo replied on 9 July 2026 that “the ability to manually resend review requests is a feature designed for our paid plans”. On 19.10.2026, Yotpo's pricing page listed Starter from $15 a month for up to 99 orders, rising to $129 at 600–999 orders, and Pro from $119.

“we do not get any reviews with photos or videos and we used to get several per week on Loox”

“the new plan they insisted on was a price increase of over 300%”

Setup and display problems: 12 of 30

These range from a one-line review to long reports. Four of them:

“Not all reviews are visible, even after contacting support multiple times.”

“The platform's email delivery system shows messages as “delivered,” but test results show that emails are not actually sending.”

“as soon as I did that my site malfunctioned. You could not open a product at all”

“Upgrading your plan from Free to a paid tier doesn't actually work (the charge is applied, but service levels are NOT increased).”

One Up Party Canada's review, from 4 February 2026, is three words long: “On boarding fails”. If your problem is reviews missing from the store, our guide to Yotpo reviews not showing on Shopify goes through the app embed, the app key, the product ID and Yotpo's publishing delay.

Fewer reviews, and getting them out: 4 of 30

Two reviews say review collection dropped, and two say exporting was hard.

“from getting several hundred reviews in a month consistently for years to 7 new reviews in a month”

Yotpo's reply, on 22 June 2026: “Our team made every effort to investigate the decline in review requests and review volume.” It also says Yotpo offered to go through the analytics dashboard with the merchant.

“when try to export it, it send me empty csv for 5 times”

“It is not easy to export the reviews to move to another app.”

What Yotpo does well, and who should stay

The 1–2 star reviews are 179 of 4,638. Shopify's own summary of all the reviews, generated by Shopify Magic on the listing, says merchants “consistently describe customer support as excellent, handling both simple and complex tasks.” A 5-star review from ZONE3, posted the same day as the newest 1-star one (20 August 2026), says: “It's also refreshing to be able to speak to a real person when the AI agent hasn't quite resolved the issue.”

Some stores are better off staying:

  • Brands that sell through retailers. Yotpo's Premium plan lists “Retail syndication” and “Syndicate across domains”. Meghan Fabulous's review above shows that retailers like Macy's ask for exactly this. Formgong has no retail syndication.
  • Stores that run Yotpo Loyalty & Referrals. Yotpo sells reviews and loyalty as a bundle, and its loyalty product has a free plan. Moving reviews alone leaves you with two vendors.
  • Stores that need a Verified Buyer badge. Yotpo labels reviewers as Verified Buyer, a column in its own export. Formgong marks only reviews left from the email we send after an order as “Verified buyer”, and that needs your shop to send us its orders (our WordPress plugin does it for WooCommerce).
  • Stores that want review emails sent automatically after every order. Every Yotpo plan, Free included, lists automatic review requests. Formgong does not email your Shopify customers after an order; you send them your review link yourself.
  • Teams that want a named person. Premium lists a dedicated onboarding manager and a dedicated customer success manager.

If you stay on Yotpo: four fixes from Yotpo's help centre

Export your reviews, even if you stay. A copy on your own disk costs nothing. Yotpo's export article covers every plan from Free to Enterprise: go to Manage > Reviews, optionally filter, and click Export in the upper-right corner. Yotpo emails you a link to the CSV, and says it “may take up to 1 hour”.

If the CSV comes back empty or short, the same article lists what the export leaves out: Q&A, “Reviews that were filtered using the search bar”, and possibly reviews from the last day: “New reviews submitted within the last 24 hours might not appear in the export file.” Clear the search bar, use the filters instead, and try again a day after the last review you need. We do not know why Dive To Garden's file was empty, and Yotpo's page does not say it covers that case. If it is still empty, report it with the time you clicked Export.

To reach a person, log in to Yotpo and click the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner. On Starter and Pro, choose Open a case in the chat window and attach screenshots; Yotpo emails you a case number. On Premium and Enterprise you can start a live chat. On the free plan, according to Yotpo's page, the chatbot is the only channel. Support is in English only.

To send a review request again, you need Starter or higher: Yotpo's resend article lists Starter, Pro, Premium and Enterprise. Go to Manage > Reviews, find the review, open its three-dot menu, click More and then Re-send review request. Two limits: “Each Automatic Review Request can be resent only once”, and it works for product reviews only.

Moving your Yotpo reviews to Formgong, step by step

We checked each step against our import code on 19.10.2026. Importing is part of the free Reviews plan, with no limit on the number of reviews.

  1. Export from Yotpo as above: Manage > Reviews, Export, then download the CSV from Yotpo's email.
  2. Clean the file. Yotpo's export has a Review Status column. Every row of your file arrives in Formgong as pending, so delete the rows you would not publish, such as Rejected ones, before you import. Then the publish button in step 5 is safe to click.
  3. Open the import page. Create a free Formgong account, open Reviews in the dashboard and add your site. On the site's page, click Import reviews.
  4. Import. Choose the CSV, pick the language the reviews are written in, and click Import. Formgong recognises a Yotpo export by its Review Score and Review Content columns.
  5. Read the result and decide. The page says how many reviews came in, how many were already imported before, and how many rows were skipped for a missing rating or an unreadable date. Nothing is public yet. Click Publish N imported reviews, approve them one by one in the moderation list, or click Undo this import, which deletes the reviews of that import you have not published.
  6. Add the widget to your product pages (next two sections).
  7. Switch Yotpo off. Cancel the plan under Billing in Yotpo and uninstall the app. Yotpo's own cancellation article asks for both “To avoid sending unwanted Automatic Review Request emails or being billed unintentionally”.
What a Yotpo export keeps in Formgong, checked against our import code on 19.10.2026
From the Yotpo fileIn Formgong
Review Score (1–5)Kept. A row without a whole 1–5 rating is skipped and counted.
Review Title and Review ContentKept, the title on its own line above the text. Text over 2,000 characters is cut.
Reviewer Display NameKept, up to 80 characters.
Review Creation DateKept as the review's date. A row with a date we cannot read is skipped and counted.
Product Handle, Product IDKept as the product. The handle is used first, so it matches {{ product.handle }} in the widget code below.
Comment Content with Comment Public = trueKept as your public reply. Private comments are dropped.
Review IDUsed to spot duplicates: importing the same file twice adds nothing.
Reviewer EmailNot stored.
Reviewer Type (Verified Buyer)Not kept. No imported review is marked verified.
Photos and videos, thumbs up and down, custom questionsNot imported.

One file can be up to 5 MB and 5,000 rows; split a bigger export into parts. You can run 20 imports a day.

One thing we have not done yet is run a real Yotpo export through it. We built the Yotpo reader from the column list in Yotpo's export article and test it on a file with those columns. If your import reports rows “Skipped, no readable date”, send us the header row and one line of the file and we will add that date format.

Putting the reviews on a Shopify store

Our Shopify app has been in Shopify's App Store review since 14.10.2026 and was not listed on 19.10.2026. Until it is, the widget goes into a Custom Liquid section on the product template. In the theme editor, open a product page, add a Custom Liquid section where the reviews should go, paste the code below with your own access key, and save. Then remove the Yotpo blocks and turn off the Yotpo Reviews app embed, so the page does not show both.

{{ product.handle }} fills in each product's handle, which is the Product Handle column of your Yotpo file, so every product page shows the reviews that belonged to it. If some of your products use another template, add the section there too, as our guide to showing reviews on Shopify explains.

Custom Liquid
<!-- Custom Liquid section on the product template -->
<div data-formgong-reviews="fk_your_access_key" data-product="{{ product.handle }}"></div>
<script src="https://formgong.com/reviews.js" defer></script>

On any other site: one div and one script

Off Shopify, paste the same two lines where the reviews should appear, and set data-product to the product handle from your Yotpo file. Without data-product, the widget shows the newest approved reviews of the whole site. The script loads with defer and draws inside its own Shadow DOM, so your CSS does not break it. The review widget page has the details.

Two things work differently from Yotpo, and you should know them before you move. Formgong checks a purchase only if your shop sends us its orders (our WordPress plugin does it for WooCommerce): reviews left from the email we send after an order are marked “Verified buyer”, and reviews from your plain review link are not. And the publishing rules never look at the star rating. You approve reviews yourself, publish everything, or let bare star ratings go live and keep written reviews for yourself to read; a 1 star review goes through the same rule as a 5 star one, and hiding any review, good or bad, asks you for a reason from a fixed list, such as spam, abuse or personal data.

Judge.me and Loox both import Yotpo reviews too, and both listings include review emails sent automatically after an order. If that matters most to you, one of them may suit you better than we do. If you want the reviews on any site with one script tag, free, with your approval on each one, Formgong does that.

Each app also has its own comparison with Formgong: Yotpo alternative, Judge.me alternative, Loox alternative.

Import your Yotpo reviews, and tell us what we got wrong

Export the CSV from Yotpo today, even if you have not decided to leave. Then create a free account from the review widget page, open Reviews, add your site and click Import reviews. Nothing goes public until you publish it, and Undo this import removes it again.

The same account covers the rest of a small shop's site: contact forms that email you, an AI help chat that answers visitors from your own pages, and free templates with the form already connected.

We want to hear from you either way. If you are on Yotpo and your experience differs from these reviews, or a quote here is out of date, or the import skipped rows it should have kept, write to support@formgong.com. We will check it and correct this page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I export my reviews from Yotpo?

In Yotpo Reviews go to Manage > Reviews, filter if you want, and click Export in the upper-right corner. Yotpo emails a link to a CSV file, which it says may take up to an hour. Export works on every plan, Free included.

Why is my Yotpo review export empty?

Yotpo's export article says reviews filtered with the search bar cannot be exported and reviews from the last 24 hours might be missing. Clear the search, use the filters instead and try again a day later. If it is still empty, report it to Yotpo.

How do I reach a person at Yotpo support?

Log in and click the chat bubble. Yotpo's help page says the free plan gets the chatbot only, Starter and Pro can open a case after the chatbot, and Premium and Enterprise can start a live chat. Support is in English only.

Can I resend a review request on Yotpo's free plan?

No. Yotpo's resend article lists Starter, Pro, Premium and Enterprise, and each request can be resent only once. Yotpo told a free-plan merchant in July 2026 that manual resend is a feature of its paid plans.

Can I import Yotpo reviews into Formgong?

Yes, on the free plan. Upload Yotpo's CSV export under Reviews, Import reviews. Ratings, text, names, dates, products and public replies are kept; emails, Verified Buyer labels and photos are not. Imported reviews wait for your approval.
